Jim Furlong was a part of the Stampeders' 1971 Grey Cup championship team which defeated Toronto,[2] and part of a defense allowing only 218 points in the 16-game regular season. Furlong was also a member of the team that played in the 56th Grey Cup of 1968 and the 58th Grey Cup of 1970, losing to the Ottawa Rough Riders led by Russ Jackson and to the Montreal Alouettes led by Sonny Wade, respectively. From 1962 to 1972, he played alongside middle linebacker Wayne Harris, member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, forming a strong tandem, whose performances culminated in the 1971 campaign.
